Where the Smell Actually Lives
Smoke odor compounds are volatile organic chemicals produced by combustion. They enter drywall paper, wood grain, carpet fiber, insulation batts, and upholstered fabric. When they cool and bind to the organic compounds in these materials, they stay there.
Surface cleaning removes the visible soot layer and the odor compounds on the surface. It has no effect on the molecules inside the porous material.
